RørosHetta – A bit out of the ordinary
The story of RørosHetta is also the story of the world heritage site Røros. About how one manages to create something big in a small space. The copper works in Bergstaden have delivered world-class engineering for several hundred years. In the fairytale town in the mountains, the traditional and the modern have gone hand in hand throughout time.
In Røros Metall, copper has also played the main role. The innovation mindset has been at the core of the family business from day one. We travel the world in search of inspiration, and translate international trends with local creativity. The goal is always to make the world’s best kitchen hood. From tinsmith to leading supplier of kitchen ventilation
Ventilation, kitchen hoods and cold storage are the pillars that have supported Røros Metall throughout our 80-year history.
Røros Metall started as a copper and tinsmith workshop in 1946. Over the years, production has been diverse and always with a clear vision of delivering solid craftsmanship of high quality. Developments to this day have led to small and large changes in the range. Innovation and creativity in product development have been in focus. Together with reliability and high credibility, this is the background to our success today.
Local production and Norwegian industrial heritage
Local production and noaMining and urban agriculture have shaped a very special mountain town – a man-made wonder of outstanding cultural value that was granted World Heritage Site status on the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1980. The Røros Museum, the Olav Mine and the Røros Church are well worth a visit, and the atmosphere in districts such as Sleggveien and Flanderborg is something all its own. In the streets you will find a vibrant arts and crafts environment, workshop outlets, distinctive small shops and good restaurants offering local dishes with seasonal ingredients.
In 1644, copper ore was found in the Røros mountains, when only a few small mountain farms existed here. As early as 1646, the first smelting hut was built at Malmplassen, which became the center of the rapidly growing mountain town. For 382 years, the city has merged impulses from Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Trondheim and neighboring villages. Therefore, the unique wooden house environment carries much of the finest in Norwegian and Northern European tradition, in the small, quaint town 600 meters above sea level.
The mountain town of Røros is still preserved as it was built in the 18th and 19th centuries, with traditional structures built almost exclusively in wood. The street pattern and farm properties in the city center are also still as they were designed in the 17th century, inspired by continental ideas and old Norwegian building customs. The traditional farm with houses for people and livestock around a square yard has been brought into Røros from the countryside in the form of apartment buildings that are closely grouped together in a small urban community.
